Mike hails from the most Southeastern point of Texas, known as Port Arthur. He is a 1984 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School. At the ripe young age of 18, Mike joined the US Air Force traveling to the tropical island of Iceland for his first year assignment. After defrosting, Mike spent the following seven years in Colorado Springs working for NORAD and Space Command at Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Base, while his ninth and final year in the military was spent at Ellington AFB in Houston working as trainer in Command Post Operations until he was honorably discharged.

Despite becoming a single father at the age of 25, Mike steadily continued to attend college throughout his military career and received a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences Degree in General Studies from Lamar University Beaumont. While finalizing his bachelor’s degree, Mike served as a congressional intern to Congressman Nick Lampson in the Ninth District of Texas.

Following Mike’s military experience, he tried his entrepreneurial hand at various business ventures including owning and operating a night club and building a real estate investment company in Beaumont. Also, Mike worked as a manager, supervisor, and educator for various substance abuse testing and industrial medical facilities to include Forward Edge Drug Testing, Drug Screens Etc, and Tower Medical Center of Nederland. During this time, Mike became a certified instructor for the Drug and Alcohol Testing Industry Association (DATIA) and testified in various court hearings as an expert in the field of forensic specimen collection.

After departing the drug and alcohol testing business, Mike decided to return to graduate school where he earned his Juris Doctor Degree from Thurgood Marshall School of Law, graduating Magna Cum Laude in the top 5% of his class with a 3.48 GPA. During law school, Mike earned the highest class ranking in the study of Evidence and the study of Wills and Trusts. Additionally, Mike earned the second highest class ranking in the study of Professional Ethics and the study of Contract Law. Mike received the Dean's List Award for all Semesters of Law School, the Chancellor's Excellence Award, and the Collegiate All-American Scholar Award. Mike also participated as a member of the Hispanic Law Student Association and the International and Immigration Law Society.

Furthermore, Mike worked for Texas Southern University as a part time teaching assistant by tutoring first year law students in the study of Contract Law, and also for LexisNexis as a legal research assistant and classroom instructor for students as well as professors.

After graduating and passing the Texas Bar, Mike became an associate attorney for the Law Offices of Peggy S. Bittick in Pearland, primarily practicing in the areas of consumer, employment, family, probate, estate planning, and real estate law. On January 01, 2008, Mike started the Law Offices of Michael W. Gonzalez, L.L.C, by opening his first law office in Pearland, Brazoria County, Texas. Since that time, Mike has been honored to be named “Of Counsel” to the Mitchell Katine and John Nechman law firm in Houston. As a result, the Law Offices of Michael W. Gonzalez has opened its second law office in Houston, Harris County, Texas.

During Mike’s legal profession, he has represented clients in Harris, Brazoria, Galveston, Chambers, Jefferson, Montgomery, Matagorda, Jackson, Fort Bend, Liberty, Harrison, Tarrant, Dallas, Denton, Lufkin, Bexar, Kendall, Hardin, Orange, and Tyler Counties.

Mike is a member of the Texas State Bar and the Federal U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Mike is extremely involved in the community. He serves as a contributing attorney to the Houston Volunteer Lawyer’s Program and the City of Pearland Teen Court. Mike also serves on the Board of Directors for the Stonewall Law Association of Greater Houston, Inc., and the Board of Directors as Secretary of Pride Houston, Inc. Most recently, Mike was named General Counsel to the Board of Directors of Galveston Pride, Inc.

When Mike is not working, seldom as it may be, he enjoys spending time with his family. For recreation, Mike regularly plays softball on the Legal Eagles Softball Team and enjoys bowling, horse shoes, playing guitar, scary-karaoke, boating, and chaotic family gatherings.
